Drag Queen Bingo; It's Not Your Grandmother's Bingo!

You would probably suspect that a lot of bingo gets played in Florida; after all hasn't Florida long been touted as one of the retirement capitals of the world?

In Sarasota there's a restaurant called the Canvas Cafe that's taking bingo to a "whole 'nother level". Now, if you've played bingo you know that sometimes it can be a bit of a snooze fest, but you throw in a couple of drag queens calling out the numbers and you've got yourself a party!

The Canvas Cafe has Drag Queen Bingo monthly as a fund raiser for the Community Aids Network and it's a rousing success where gay and straight people have a fabulous time.

What's the problem you may ask? Well drag queens are a frisky lot, and sometimes their humor can be decidedly R or even X-rated; much to the chagrin of some of the homes in the neighborhood. CNN reported today that the people living next door to the Canvas Cafe oppose the function because of the blue humor falling on the ears of their young, impressionable, children. Unfortunately for them, the Canvas Cafe isn't violating any city ordinances, bingo wraps up by 10:00p.m., so they're just going to have to deal with it.

For now, life is a drag for those neighbors; at least once a month.
