TV SCHEDULE CONFLICTS

Every year you are faced with choosing one show over another. If you are lucky your show is rebroadcast at another time, or you can catch it online. This way you can see all your shows!

Not all show are rebroadcast or online. Or you don't have the time to spend catching a show at another time. I mean we do have actual lifes that don't revolve around TV! Right ? You do, right?

So what do you choose:

Sunday Night:

8:00 Not Worth Mentioning.
9:00 You have to choose between Desperate Housewives and Cold Case! I guess I'll see cold case in the reruns.
10:00 Brothers and Sisters vs The Unit. This is tough one. It might be a flipper night (you know flipping back and forth and between both shows).

Monday Night:

8:00 Hands Down Terminator wins. I guess if you like dancing old people or office dude pretends to be spy - you might have a conflict.
9:00 TOUGHEST CHOICE DURING THE WEEK - Heroes, One Tree Hill, or Prison Break! God Bless CW for the rebroadcast of One Tree Hill on Sunday at 7 (which I actually remember to watch). As for Prison Break, it was looking like it had jump the shark anyway -- sorry guys! HEROES is my choice!
10:00 Unless it turns out that I like My Own Worst Enemy, I'll be in bed sleeping

Tuesday Night:

8:00 While Opportunity Knocks sounds cute, I believe game shows belong on during the day or 7 o'clock hour. I love House, but love him more as rerun. The biggest loser lost a long time ago. Now we are down to 90210 and NCIS. Yes, I admit it, I actually like 90210. However, I don't know that I want to relive my teens enough to watch it again over NCIS. I'll be hanging out with Gibbs and gang.
9:00 This hour we have three new shows to choose from, the Mentalist, Privileged and Fringe. GOD BLESS CW again if you like Privileged you can watch it Sunday night at 8 in a rebroadcast. It's actually an ok show; it’s nice to see a Reba star back on the aire. What can I say about Fringe...? I know I never liked X FILES!! Enough said. Yes, I'm watching the Mentalist. While, it’s no Psych, it grabbed me with it's own unique (happy face) hook!
10:00 In this hour you have Without a Trace and L&O SVU both great shows! Both shows I watch in Primetime and Reruns (again and again and again). I'll probably choose one show one week and the other the next. I know that I'll make up missed shows during the reruns.

Wednesday Night:

8:00 A lot to choose from if you don't like comedy. If you do, there's only one choice for you: PUSHING UP DAISIES. It's cute, funny, and entertaining.
9:00 If you’re a Gray's fan you'll probably be watching Private Practice. If your not, or you have taste you'll be watching Criminal Minds. It's a fast paced cop/ thriller/ adventure and drama all in one!
10:00 Lipstick Jungle was ok. It just wasn't as captivating as Dirty, Sexy, Money - that's where my set will be turned.

Thursday Night:

8:00 Smallville hasn't this show died yet? Survivor - needs a survivor on Wall Street episode (boring). You'll never learn my Moment of Truth. There's not enough money in the world to make an ass out me on National TV - I'll do it for free right here! I love Earl. He makes me laugh. I just like laughing at Ugly Betty more!
9:00 Tough call for the season premiere of CSI, why why did they kill the black guy? I'll have to know that answer. So my boys over at SuperNatural might miss me for a week or two. Don't fret I'll be back with them right after I find out. I can always catch CSI in the reruns. For those of you who have to watch Grays, it's online!
10:00 ER are you serious? Kill the show already! I hear nothing about Life on Mars actually. The name just doesn't grab me. I'll probably be checking out Eleventh Hour. If it’s not good, I'll just go to bed early.

Friday Night:

8:00 I don't hate Chris. I just don't watch Chris. Melinda Gordon has my Ghost fascination attention all on her! Is there really anything else worth mentioning?
9:00 Not much of a selection. However, I love to sing. It's always fun to see if I'll remember the lyrics!
10:00 20/20 is only good if they have a particular story that grabs your attention. Life I hear is going to get cancelled (already rumors!). Numb3rs has my vote! Besides we have a cliff hanger here with Professor Brother now on the terrorists watch list (or something like that). Hey it's Friday night GO OUT ALREADY - help our economy!

Saturday Night:

Does it really matter? Aren't you out on a date? Well go out by yourself, live a little.


I didn't mention any of the Premium Cable shows, because I can watch those ON DEMAND. I love Weeds, Curb, Dexter, Big Love, and others... As for the other cable channels I watch many of those shows. The problem is that they can't figure out if they are having summer shows, winter shows, fall shows or year round shows. When I figure out what they are doing, I'll be watching Nip Tuck, Damages, Army Wives, and others.

Tenative Deal May End Writers Strike!

Are they really putting down the signs? A tentative deal has been reached that might lead to the end of this strike. WGA says it’s not a perfect deal, and doesn't include everything desired; however, it looks good.

What does this mean?

Don't get to happy. Most of our favorite shows are already out of episodes. So the writers go back to work. They have to write! Then the studio goes back to production. It has been estimated it could be four to eight weeks before your shows are back.

I heard one estimation that this strike could once again change the way we see TV. Well, how bad could it be really? We already have three different TV seasons, the fall, late winter and then summer. What else could the studios do to us that hasn't already been done?

I want to express relief that we can once again (some time soon) have our favorite shows back.

What will you be watching this Sunday?

This Sunday, February 10, 2008 is the 50th Annual Grammy Awards on CBS.

Did you know that the Grammys have over 100 categories? There are the top 30 some that everyone is waiting to hear about like Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Rock Song, Best Female Pop and so forth. But there are also categories like Best Polka Album, Best Chamber Music Performance and Best Album Notes. Who knew there were so many categories? I sure didn't.

If you are a hard core Grammy Fan you might not want to wait for the Sunday morning paper to get all the calories and pick your favorites. So go now to Grammy.com and you can print out all 110 categories along with all the nominees. Once printed circle your picks and wait for the Sunday to find out if you are right. Can't wait till Sunday; fill your days listening to your favorites and some of other nominees, who knows maybe you'll change your pick.

Valentines Day Is Not That Far Away

What do you do on Valentines Day?

Do you celebrate with a loved one, curl up with a good book, or watch a good action flick on the boob tube?

Celebrating with a loved one? You probably already have those reservations made. If not pick up that phone time is a ticking. Go buy that card tomorrow, pick out that teddy bear and grab a box of candy while the selections are still good.

Curling up with a good book? Not much planning necessary for this one. However, you might want to consider grabbing your favorite ice cream on the way home. It's always nice to have goodies on a quiet night alone.

Watching an action flick on the boob tube? You might want to pick out your favorite one now and reserve it at the video store, or order it from Netflicks. Be sure your movie is ready for you on that night!

No plans? Not sure what to do! Well, plan a night: Cook a nice pasta dish (for one or two), pick out a nice complementary bottle of wine or sparkling cider, set a formal table, have your favorite dessert in the refrigerator waiting and then pick your selection for TV viewing:

Oh We've Seen It!

You ever flip the channels looking for something and than settle on one of your favorite shows. Shortly, after it starts you go, "Oooohhhh seeeennnn it!" Then just leave it on that channel anyway, because:



a) you are to lazy to turn the channel

b) couldn't care less about what you watch

c) only want something on for background noise anyway

d) liked it enough to watch again

or

e) all of the above?



For me, it's all of the above.

Halcyon Days of Television

It’s no secret I love television, but I get very frustrated with programming trends. Have you experienced one of the following scenarios?:

-A new show airs with an interesting, complicated storyline that you watch and become very involved in-- only to have the show removed before resolution of the storyline or;

-Same scenario as above, but instead of removing the show they play around with the air times so much you’d have to be a psychic to know when it will be on the air next or;

-A new show airs with an interesting, complicated storyline, which you watch and become very involved in; it’s wonderful and has a satisfying resolution but when the show ends, you have no idea whether it will be on again next year or ever because the network hasn’t decided if it will renew it.

-Same scenario as above, but instead of not knowing if it will be returning to the roster, you do know it will be back---in a couple of years.

This is the state of television these days, but when “hector was a pup” or I was a child if you prefer, television looked like this:

-A new show came on and ran for 26 episodes, one time a week,
-Shows had definite air times, and interestingly enough they stayed on at those times. If there was going to be a change of time there was plenty of notice about it,
-Shows came on in the fall, and ended in the summer (like an old fashioned school year),
-Show story lines were complete in each episode.

I long for those halcyon days of television when I could turn on the tube secure in the knowledge my favorite show is where it should be…and all is right in the world.

Saturday TV Programming

When you watch television as much as I do you begin to fancy yourself a bit of a connoisseur; that is why you can believe me when I tell you that, when it comes to entertaining television, Saturday is the "red-headed stepchild" of the week.

Oh I'm sure you have your favorite days of the week to watch the tube, days where it seems as if there are too many watchable shows. I guarantee no such quandary exists on Saturday. On Saturday during the day, the choices seem to be old B movies (how much Steven Seagal can one really watch?) or home improvement shows, at night it's America's Most Wanted and Mad TV.

I often wonder what process is used to decide what airs on which day, is it a particular demographic that is being appealed to? Do television networks assume that everyone is out clubbing or is it something much more nefarious? All I can say is thank goodness for On Demand!
