Pop-tarts were first produced for the toaster in 1967. When I was a kid pop-tarts were all the rage. I ate them for breakfast and snacks. It was quick and easy. No fuss no muss! Just pop it in the toaster and wait. Once it came up it was good to eat. The only trick was not eating it, as soon as it popped, cause it was hot.
Some time in the 80's (?) an item called toaster strudel was produced. Toaster strudel like pop-tarts was made for the toaster. Now toaster strudel hands down is the prettier picture. It may even be the healthier option, although I'm no health expert. I tried this so called toaster strudel after it first came out. I was very disappointed. See you put it the toaster, but then you had to apply the strudel (white icing) after it popped out. HUH? Too much trouble. I never had another one after that.
Till this day, if I were to choose one, I would choose pop-tarts. I'm not saying that the toaster strudel didn't' taste good. Because honestly, I can't remember what it tasted like. I can, however, very distinctly recall what a pop-tart tasted like. Boy did I like those!
