Because I spend many hours a day watching television, I have the privilege of enjoying many, many, commercials. You probably recognize that for the facetious statement that was; at least the enjoying part.
Commercials are a necessary evil of our television viewing, after all the bills have to be paid; all I require is the commercial be entertaining. Macy's ad campaign for the holiday season, "The Magic of Macy's" is just that, an entertaining bit of fluff that pulls together luminaries from several different genres and unites them for the commercialism that is Christmas.
The spot I love is "Evening" and features Donald Trump, Emeril, Tyler Florence, Martha Stewart, Russell Simmons, Kimora Lee Simmons, Usher, Tommy Hilfiger, P Diddy, Kenneth Cole, Jessica Simpson and Marc Ecko working to decorate the store in one night.
The reason I enjoy this spot so much is it's the very picture of diversity in consumerism; it's equal opportunity appeal to the pocket is charming to me. Macy's has delivered the ultimate message of unity: when it comes to holiday sales, we are all one.
